Metal Industries is proud to be celebrating 70 years of manufacturing excellence! From our humble beginning in 1947 at a Clearwater, FL airstrip to today, Metal Industries, Inc. remains dedicated to the core principles of our founder, Mr. J. T. Walker.
Having a strong work ethic and ambition, Mr. Walker turned his early passion for flight into a successful aviation career. During WWII he was a civilian flight instructor for the U.S. Navy and a test pilot for the B-29 Bomber. After the war he went into business in Clearwater, FL, purchasing with his partners an airstrip where he continued to instruct returning veterans in flight, only stopping when the U.S. government ceased underwriting the costs of teaching war veterans to fly.
Undaunted and ever an astute businessman, Mr. Walker and his partners converted the airstrip hangers into a metal screen manufacturing facility for the growing housing market in Florida and thus, Metal Industries, Inc. was born. A fortuitous visit from someone looking for an ‘air vent’ steered him into the fledgling HVAC industry and the rest as they say is ‘history’.
Over the years, Metal Industries has expanded our product lines, manufacturing capabilities and facilities with a vision of providing superior customer service and unmatched lead time in the HVAC industry – a vision we can confidently state we’ve achieved.
At Metal Industries we have never strayed from our founder’s principles – those of integrity, accountability and respect. METALAIRE has been highlighted in the new television show Office Spaces airing on Lifetime Television® as the featured brand of air distribution devices. METALAIRE’s architectural products, particularly the Formations® architectural linear slot diffusers and the Model 5750 plaque diffusers were utilized throughout the office and meeting spaces due to their superior performance and clean lines.
Office Spaces™ is a reality office design series that details the design and renovation of the offices for a Florida-based design and production firm that moved 135 employees from 20,000 square-feet, spread out over four floors, between two buildings, into a single 11,000 square-foot space. The same team that developed the award-winning, home-improvement show Designing Spaces, BrandStar, is behind this project in Pompano Beach,FL.

METALAIRE is pleased to announce the release of the Model NDRH Non-Ducted Return Hood. The Model NDRH is designed to reduce the amount of sound transmitted from or into the plenum space through return grilles in non-ducted applications.
Sound transmission from office to office or mechanical noises from the plenum of non-ducted returns can be an ongoing nuisance issue. The Model NDRH significantly reduces the amount of sound transmitted into or from the plenum and also functions effectively as a light shield. It can be used with any of METALAIRE's T-bar lay-in return grilles (RH, CC5, 7500R, etc.) specifically for use in non-ducted return applications.
The NDRH is for use with non-ducted return grilles applied in T-bar lay-in applications. The NDRH is constructed of sturdy 22 ga. galvanized steel and is lined with 1/2" fiber insulation on 3 sides. Sound transmission is cut by 7-10 NC helping to limit sound transmitted from or through the plenum space.
METALAIRE is pleased to announce the release of Model 5500CAD Cold Aisle Diffuser. This unit is primarily designed for application in ‘cold-aisles’ in supermarkets and warehouse stores, but can be utilized anywhere that a field-adjustable combination of horizontal and vertical throws are desirable.
The Model 5500CAD is a hybrid unit that combines the features of a 5500 louver face diffuser with a cube core dampered center. This combination allows for full adjustability from a full horizontal throw to completely vertical throw, or any combination in between.
Model 5500CAD Aluminum Louver Face Hybrid Supply Diffuser
The 5500CAD is an aluminum, louver face supply diffuser with a 9” x 9”central 1/2”x1/2”x1/2” cube core secondary supply area. The cube core center area is provided with a steel OBD as a standard feature to allow for adjusting flow from fully vertical to fully horizontal throw. All units include our APD Air Pattern Deflectors as a standard feature allowing for complete manual field adjustment of throw patterns.
The 5500CAD is available for Lay-in T-Bar (-6 border) or V-Beveled Drop Surface (-2 border) mounting. Optional un-insulated or insulated plenum boxes are also available. Base unit is provided in METALAIRE White (01), or optionally available in mill finish, satin silver, black or custom matched colors.
METALAIRE is pleased to announce the release of a full offering of thermally actuated linear diffusers that can vary flow pattern or air volume in response to supply air temperature. METALAIRE thermal linear diffusers are an ideal solution for perimeter problem areas such as entryways, foyers and spaces that are affected by east/west exposure.
Each of the diffusers in this linear family can adjust based upon the supply air temperature and the configured setting to assure maximum occupant comfort in these difficult and variable environments.
No electric or pneumatic power is required for these units to operate making them ideal as retrofit or stand-alone solutions.
Model MVAC - VAV Cooling Control
The MVAC linear diffuser provides variable air volume control for interior cooling only applications. Via the use of an adjustable wax-type actuator and a uniquely designed induction slot that samples room air temperature, the MVAC will vary from full open (2-slot horizontal cooling pattern) to fully closed based upon the differential between room air and supply air. Units are factory calibrated to maintain a 72 degree room temperature. Available in 24", 36", 48" and 60" lengths.
Model MVACH - VAV Cooling and Heating Control
The MVACH uses similar technology to the MVAC cooling only unit but adds the additional capability of changing the flow pattern as well. When the unit is in cooling mode, the unit has the 2-slot horizontal pattern active; when the system is in heating mode the MVACH automatically switches to a 1-slot vertical air pattern. Again utilizing adjustable wax-type actuators and a uniquely designed induction slot, the MVACH offers full VAV control based upon the individual set points in both heating and cooling modes.This functionality is ideal for perimeter applications where a 'warm air' wash is desirable for the heating season, but a horizontal throw is necessary for cooling seasons. Available in 24", 36", 48" and 60" lengths.
Model MLAD - Constant Volume, Heat/Cool Changeover
The MLAD is a constant volume linear diffuser that automatically switches from a 2-slot horizontal throw diffuser when in cooling mode to a 1-slot vertical throw diffuser when in heating mode. Ideally suited for entryways and other perimeter applications, the MLAD utilizes a bi-metallic coil that senses supply temperature and allows for easy calibration of the changeover set point. Available in 24" & 48" lengths.
Metal Industries’ Bushnell Plant has been recertified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Award recipient. As noted in a congratulatory letter from Florida Governor Rick Scott, the SHARP award is recognition of Metal Industries exemplary commitment to our employees’ health and safety at our Bushnell, FL facility.
Metal Industries Bushnell facility was originally awarded SHARP status in 2012 after a long and thorough audit process. SHARP status exempts manufacturing plants from regular OSHA inspections during the period the SHARP award is in effect. The 3-year renewal plaque was presented to Bushnell Plant Manager Mark Paul by Kurt Petermeyer, Regional Administrator of OSHA at a plant-wide celebration event on Friday, April 17, 2015. Congratulations to the entire team!
